The Solia Straightener is a relative newcomer to the hair styling scene

By Alissa Carter

As a result of the current fashion to wear your hair straight and have that "Jennifer Aniston" look, there's now a bewildering range of hair straighteners (or flat iron), ranging from the popular Sedu, the recent Solia and the GHD (which is the main brand in the UK).

So, what's the difference and how do you choose between them?

The Sedu brand is the one that has been wildly popular during 2006, and is used to create the looks seen on many well known celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston, Hilary Duff and Paris Hilton. The Sedu is primarily aimed at being a hair straightener that minimises heat damage to your hair, whilst creating an incredibly well-groomed, smooth and shiny look to the hair. Whilst it is desirable, the Sedu is hard to purchase being only available from a few, trustworthy salons, spas and beauty stores.

The Solia is a relative newcomer to the hair styling scene, but offers more versatility at a lower price. With the Solia you can straighten or curl or create a number of other looks. There are also different sizes which are more suitable for different styles of hair, for example, long thick hair or short hair have different recommended models of flat iron.

GHD’s have long been popular in the UK as the only brand that will slide through your hair without causing damage. Popular, reliable and affordable, this brand will go on caring for your hair 365 days a year, unlike some less reliable, cheaper models.

It’s recommended that you use a heat protection spray when using hair straighteners to prevent damage to your hair.

The Benefits Of Tourmaline In Solia Hair Straighteners

One of the great things about hair products is that they constantly evolve and the Sedu hair iron is a great example of a hair product benefiting from Tourmaline. In fact Tourmaline has been used for many years in water filters and it’s only been in recent years that the benefits of Tourmaline could be harnessed for the hair industry. This article was written to try and explain exactly what Tourmaline is and why it's used on hair straighteners.

Firstly, Tourmaline is a precious stone, whose colors include blue, green, pink, red, yellow, brown, black, bi-colored, tri-colored, and colorless. Tourmaline may be found in Brazil, Russia, Burma, Afghanistan, Malagasy Republic, Maine, California.

According to Egyptian legend the beautiful colors are the result of the Tourmaline travelling along a rainbow from the centre of the Earth up towards the sun. And on its way up it collected all the colours of the rainbow. This is why nowadays it is also called the "Rainbow gemstone”.

The name "Tourmaline” is derived from the Singhalese expression "tura mali”, which translates as "stone of mixed colours.” Ooohhh, now I'm intrigued. The very name already refers to the unique spectrum of colours displayed by this gemstone and no Tourmaline stone resembles another one. Tourmaline shows many faces and is thus excellently suited to match all moods and tempers. It does not come as a surprise, then, that ever since ancient days it has been attributed with magical powers. Tourmaline is supposed to be an especially powerful influence on love and friendship, lending them permanence and stability. I think it's about time I gave a Sedu Tourmaline hair straightener to my boyfriend!

Tourmaline has been used for sometime now in specialist water filters but only recently has it's benefits been used in the hair industry.

Why is it used on hair straighteners?

It's all very well and good that Tourmaline is a beautiful gemstone but I'm sure I've never seen any sparkling gems on my Sedu tourmaline hair straightener so why is it used. I'm going to get a bit technical here: Tourmaline plates on your straightener generate negative ions and far infrared (FIR) rays. The FIR help to lock in moisture in your hair and also remove static which causes your hair to Frizz.
Due to the concentration of these negative ions hair-straightening time is cut in half and your hair is left feeling much softer and shinier.

Main benefits
· Micro-porous technology (locks in moisture)
· Ion field technology (seals in natural oils)
· Tourmaline Negative ion technology (removes static)
· Tourmaline Infrared heat for deep, long lasting straightness

It just goes to show that even precious stones have many more applications than sitting on your finger or around your neck. Although I think I still prefer a big diamond ring any day.

Best Solia Hair Straighteners

When it comes to choosing a ceramic hair straightening iron some of the best hair straighteners on the markets today are the sedu flat irons, solia flat irons, and the chi flat irons but how do you know which one is the best one for you and your hair.

Because of the price of the ceramic hair straightening iron it is impossible to test all three of the best hair straighteners and the easiest way to find the best model for you and you hair is by reading reviews. Reviews of sedu flat irons, solia flat irons, and chi flat irons can be found all over the internet and a brief search will bring you up a wide and varied list of results. Reviews give you honest opinions from people who have actually used the best hair straighteners and they will also tell you about the advantages and disadvantages of each model.

There are of course some important facts and features that you will need to take into consideration when you are looking for a ceramic hair straightening iron and these will help you to find the best hair straightener for your hair.

The first thing that you should look at is the ceramic plates. Does the ceramic hair straightening iron you are considering buying have different widths? Both the sedu flat irons and the solia flat irons have this feature. Is tourmaline used to help eliminate hair damage? Again this is present in the sedu hair irons and the solia flat irons. How long does the ceramic hair straightening iron take to heat up? Does it have a temperature gauge? Are there any safety features? What is the cost?

All these questions will help you to identify the best hair straighteners and the only thing that you will need to do then is choose the model that is best suited to you and your hair type.

Solia Flat Iron Hairstyles Sweep the Nation

by Monica Tillman

Flat hairstyles have been sweeping the nation for the past several years as many celebrities have taken up the craze, probably doing more to promote the trend than following the trend. Celebs such as Jennifer Aniston, Hillary Duff and Jennifer Lopez are all recognized as being progenitors of this huge hairstyling fad. There are several reasons why this fad has become so popular and why celebrities often favor this hairstyle.

Part of the reason that this style is so popular is the simple fact of changing tastes. As with all style fads this one is born of the need to change the aesthetic from time to time. Remember when perms and curled bangs were all the rage back in the 80's. Or who can forget the 'rat-tail'. These classic hairstyles were all the rage in their day but have faded into fashion history as newer and fresher styles emerge on the scene. That isn't to say that today's hairstyles aren't influenced by the past, we have certainly seen the long straight hair as a popular choice in the past.

In fact this straight hair style is an outgrowth of the styles of the 60's and early 70's. Think hippie or Marsha Brady. These were fantastic styles back in the day and became the early proto-types of today's styles. This look is now updated with highlights and a slight swoosh that gives more body and fullness to the hair but maintains the same essence of the originals.

One of the bigger differences between the current straight craze and previous hairstyle movements is the care with which we approach our hair today. We now realize that perms were bad for hair and often led to over-processing that breaks down hair fibers and makes hair brittle and prone to split ends. The current trend in flat irons are products that use special heating elements that produce negative ions thus protecting the hair from heat damage.

Tip: Use these flatirons on thoroughly dry hair only as use on wet hair is more likely to cause damage as it limits the effectiveness of the negative ionization.

The other big change in hairstyles that has effected the popularity of this particular hairstyle, sometimes known as solia hairstyling is the huge growth in celebrity persona and the importance that celebrities play in developing current style trends. Our favorite celebs now dish out style advice whether intentionally or not every day of the week.

All in all I believe the popularity of straight hairstyles, or sedu hairstyles, is here to stay for a while. This trend has three big things going for it. First, there are a host of popular and classy celebrities that wholeheartedly endorse the trend. Second, it is just a great looking hairstyle. And finally, the style has non-damaging tools to help create it.

Solia Hair Straighteners for New Styling

Solia hair straighteners get hot fast. The effective ceramic surface makes a HUGE difference. Hair comes out both smooth and silky. On the other hand, they are a bit pricey but in this case, “You get what you pay for.”

One customer wrote that when she purchased her first flat iron she bought a fairly cheap one that was about 2 inches wide. She said she didn’t like it very much and it seemed to pull her hair. After speaking with her stylist she explained that she needed a much higher quality iron to do the job. She says that it was only after her hair started breaking off, began looking dull and frizzy that she finally took her advice. She says she knew she was going to have to spend at least one hundred dollars for a good flat iron and ended up buying one of the Solia hair straighteners.

She started by buying the basic one inch instead of the larger one and was glad she did. She says that the very first time she used it, she fell in love with it. WOW what a difference she says, Solia hair straighteners! Her hair she says is smooth, silky and very manageable!
